Writing: In love with theory, words and language

Posted on July 9, 2021 by insister_xz0h57

Some of my most loved Ursula Le Guin words features the word love. “Love”, she writes in The lathe of heaven, “doesn’t just sit there, like a stone; it has to be made, like bread, remade all the time, made new”. Trying to decide on the cover for my new book, these words kept returning like a wave in the mind, reminding me of how much words and language are a way to make and remake the world – and how in love I am with both.

This sketch is drawn from a photo taken while Hamish and I were hiking. We had decided we would look for heart signs in nature and once we began, we saw them everywhere.

And then, there it was.

This the heart stone that I have remade, new – found doing something I love with a person I love.

I’m taking this with me on my walk this afternoon: “looking for heart signs”. It strikes me as a wonderful way to approach a walk – thanks for the inspiration. Perhaps it’s a great way to approach my research/writing/work too…
